Activity 8: Sunshine

Craft: Take a paper plate and color it yellow, then with markers add a happy face. Glue the back of the paper plate on to a piece of paper. Finally add yellow lines of paint or markers to the edges of the sun circle and if you have glitter that would always be a fun touch.

Lesson: The sun is a big fiery ball that warms the earth up so we do not freeze or get really cold. If you live in a place that is usually cold the sun is probably farther away, if you live in a place that is usually hot it means the sun is closer to you. Now name places that you think would be hot and cold.

         Example: The desert is a hot place and an ice burg is a cold place.

Talk Together: Do you live closer to the sun where it is hot? How hot do you think the sun could be?

Activity: Play "Sun Tag,"first pick a person to be the sun and have them try to tag the other players. When they tag a person that person has to lay or sit down until another player that has not yet been tagged tags them, but in order for that player to be un-melted or tagged by another player you have to find something around your house that would provide shade and hold it over their head. Then after that has happened the player can rejoin the game.
